Marble grave stele of a little girl
Classical Greek (450-440 BC)
Height: 80 cm
The dead girl is shown saying farewell to her pet doves. Her peplos (dress) is unbelted and falls open at the side. It is a beautifully carved stele, particularly the girls hair and the haunting expression on her face. This piece was found on Paros in 1785. A beautiful and poignant piece.
