The Oxyrhynchus Hymn (Papyrus Oxyrhynchus XV.1786), found at Oxyrhynchus, Egypt.
Date: c. 3rd Century AD
Current location: Sackler Library, Oxford.

The Oxyrhynchus hymn is a piece of ancient Greek music, and the earliest-known copy of a Christian hymn with both lyrics and musical notation. The surviving lyrics are as follows:

These lyrics have been translated as:

… Let it be silent
Let the Luminous stars not shine,
Let the winds (?) and all the noisy rivers die down;
And as we hymn the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,
Let all the powers add “Amen Amen”
Empire, praise always, and glory to God,
The sole giver of good things, Amen Amen.
