Pair of Eyes

Classical Greek (c.5th century BC)

Eyes like these were inlays for bronze statues to make them more life like. Bronze statues originally shone pale brown (almost like flesh), lips and nipples were often made from copper, and teeth in silver. This pair of eyes were made for an over life-size figure and is made from bronze, marble, frit, quartz and obsidion.
